The incoming Central Committee, elected at the First Convention and awaiting final ratification by the membership, began preparations for its work
over the next two years with a meeting of the C.C. Bureau, the resident subcommittee overseeing day-to-day functioning.

The Bureau began with a political discussion about the current political situation in the U.S., with a focus on the growing schism between the Democratic leadership in Washington and the party’s base.

While the Bureau members were unanimous in their opinion that this current political row will not lead to any kind of upheaval or confrontation, they also felt that it could widen the gap between the Party and its voting base, including alienating and repelling working-class voters.

In this context, the Bureau discussed a recently-published “open letter to the left establishment” meant to build a new “third party” (see "On Open Letters and Obstacles").

No resolutions or statements came out of the C.C. Bureau meeting, and discussion on the upcoming period will continue in the C.C. and among the membership.

In the meantime, the Bureau will concentrate on its preparatory work.
