WASHINGTON, Dec. 22 — A report yesterday from the Office of Thrift Supervision and the Office of the Comptroller of the Currency reports that foreclosures have exceeded the 1 million mark in the U.S. The study found that 6.2 percent of mortgage holders were “seriously delinquent,” and 3.2 percent in foreclosure — amounting to over $192 billion in homeowner debt. Many of the homeowners facing foreclosure sought help from Obama’s “Home Affordable Modification Program.” But of the 700,000 trial modifications made, only about 31,000 have been made permanent. |
