WASHINGTON, Mar. 11 — Open threats of a trade war have been raised against the U.S. by France and Germany over contracts for military aircraft and talk of a European-run international loan agency. Last week, the two leading EU countries accused Washington of playing favorites with the Boeing Corporation when it came to giving out contracts for a new tanker jet. At the same time, Germany also raised the idea of a “European Monetary Fund,” which would be a rival to the U.S.-led International Monetary Fund, as well as laws to prevent Wall Street-run speculation there. |
