PORT-au-PRINCE, Haiti, Jan. 29 — A recent Associated Press review has exposed the fact that for every dollar pledged by Washington to Haiti aid, a third is going back into the military, and less than a cent is actually going to the Haitian government for its reconstruction efforts. Moreover, less than a dime from every dollar is going to food aid — mostly made up of pinto beans, black beans, rice, corn-soy blend and vegetable oil. A similar amount is spent on transporting the food. The largest amount, 42 cents, goes to US-AID, Washington’s overseas FEMA, to replace used items. |
